What is Botox?

BOTOX Cosmetics is an injectable treatment that drives from a purified protein. It is a simple, non-surgical treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. During treatment, very low doses of BOTOX are administered by a few tiny injections directly into the muscle that causes those stubborn lines. It blocks the nerve impulses from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle relaxes.

When will I see results from a BOTOX treatment and how long does it last?

The treatment is usually done in about 15 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within days, you should see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe facial frown lines. Lines continue to improve for up to two weeks and results can last for up to 3-4 months. If three treatments are done consequently, subsequent treatments should extend beyond three months. Those that follow this routine should find their BOTOX treatments last for six months. Only needing to be done two times per year!

Is BOTOX Cosmetics Safe?

BOTOX Cosmetics has been used for the past twenty years but has been licensed in Canada since 1990. It has been used to treat many diseases. BOTOX Cosmetics is an approved prescription drug and is approved by the FDA and the Health Protection Branch in Canada.

Is treatment with BOTOX painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Because the needles are very fine, most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite. No sedation or local anesthetic is required. Normal activity can be resumed immediately afterwards.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX Cosmetics will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done" or unnatural. The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows makes you look angrier and more stressed than what you are. BOTOX Cosmetic simply reduces this appearance, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

Suggestions to Reduce Bruising Prior to Injectables

Arnica Tablets may be used prior to getting Derma Fillers to help reduce bruising. These tablets may be purchased at Kelly’s Nutrition House or Tim's Whole Health on Waterloo Street.

Please stop the use of blood thinner 2-5 days prior. (Baby aspirin, Anti-inflammatories (Advil, Alieve, Motrin etc.) Tylenol may be used.

Stop Alcohol Consumption 5 days prior especially Red Wine.

Drinking Green Tea and Intake of Vitamin E are both blood thinners  – try and minimize use.

Eating Kiwi and Pineapple may be good foods to eat to help reduce bruising or swelling.

Ice Packs may be used afterwards to help reduce swelling.

Come in prior to the procedure without any makeup if possible.

Post Instructions for Derma Fillers - Including Lip Enhancements

After any type of Derma Filler treatment, you may experience some injection-related pain, swelling, itching or redness at the site of the implant. It is normal to have tenderness to the treatment site for a few days. If you find you get a lot of swelling….please call, you may need Benadryl or Reactine.

After any type of Derma Filler Treatment refrain from using Aspirin/or any Anti-inflammatory Medication (ie. Advil, Ibuprofen) Vitamin E, drinking green tea or any alcohol within 24 hours; as this may increase bruising of the injection site.

Eating 2 Kiwi & Pineapple…1 day prior to treatment/ the day of treatment and the day after, will help minimize bruising.

If you are taking Arnica please continue use for a couple of days especially if you are bruised.  This will help heal the area faster.

You may (LIGHTLY) apply a cool compress or an ice pack on the injection site for 10 mins every hour, to help reduce swelling. Swelling can last up to 7 days.

Remember until the Derma Filler settles in place, the product can move up to 48-72 hours. Please minimize major facial movement (Eg. Minimize smoking and/or drinking from a straw as well as oral sex.)

You may gently wash your face a few hours after treatment …just avoid putting pressure on the implant site. (A roll pillow should be used during the night to help lay on your back for 3-4 nights.

Do not massage the area unless instructed otherwise.

Do not apply heat, sunbath or excessive UV exposure should be avoided until the redness or swelling has subsided.

How long does Juvederm last?

The unique formulation of Juvederm provides results that last up to one year. How long a filler holds its effects depends on individual factors, including age, skin type, lifestyle and muscle activity.

How long does treatment usually take?

The actual injection process is quick and easy and takes only about 15 to 30 minutes.

How long before I see results?

Results are instant. You will see an immediate improvement in the treatment area. Most people need one treatment to achieve an optimal outcome. Supplemental "touch-up" treatments may be required to achieve and maintain the desired look.

How much does a treatment cost?

Cost of treatment will vary depending on your specific needs and the area treated. In general, treatments range from $350 to $5000. This cost is comparable to what is spent on other beauty treatments such as hair, makeup and spa visits over the course of a year.

Is treatment with Juvederm painful?

Juvederm is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. The product contains lidocaine in them to allow people to have more comfort.  Ice packs are offered as well.

What are the possible side effects?

Juvederm is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects are mild to moderate in nature and relatively short-lasting (less than seven days). These may include temporary skin reactions such as redness, tenderness and bruising.

What is the recovery time following a treatment?

Treatment requires minimal downtime and most people return to their normal routines immediately.
